Make a plan and go through it a couple of times before you start aquascaping a taller tank, as the tools and the scape materials required would be unique.   • Step 1

    Select a good quality tall tank which you can afford.

  • Step 2

    Get a small step ready so that you can reach the bottom of the tank.

  • Step 3

    Sketch your plan on a piece of paper. Keep in the golden ratio in mind during this process. Make use of inspirations to help you in this process.

  • Step 4

    Purchase good quality products including tools like tweezers and scissors. An alternate option is to purchase your products and then sketch your plan accordingly.

  • Step 5

    Fill your tank with the substrate and spread the soil as per the scape design

  • Step 6

    Prepare and place your hardscape such as driftwood or large rocks as per your plan. You can make changes to your plan if required.

    Now add aquarium soil and try to cover it with the substrate so that they are not visible from the front.

  • Step 8

    Before starting to plant your plants, do some research and find out their final length.

    Plant the smaller plants in the front and the larger at the back. Plants with broader and darker leaves are to be planted on the edges. Lighter and finer plants are arranged towards the center. You can also place plants above your hardscape.

    Fill in the tank with water without disturbing the aquascape. It is advised to add the water slowly.


As soon the tank is filled with water run the filters for a couple of hours and then introduce the fishes.
