How to breed Butterfly fish?

One of the most beautiful fishes you can choose for your aquarium. Although breeding these fishes is very difficult, it can be very awarding if the process is carried out the right way. The following steps will guide you through the process of breeding these beauties

Required supplies

• Breeding Tank
• Grow out Tank
• Live fish food
• Adult fish (Mating pair)

• Cleaning Sponge
• Tube to remove and add water

• Step 1 – Selecting the tank

  

  Choose a large tank as the butterfly fishes are known to be egg scatters

• Step 2 – Setting the tank

  

  Set the tank with floating plants and make sure the water is soft and acidic

• Step 3 – Selection of fishes

  

  Select a healthy pair to spawn and introduce it inside the tank

• Step 4 – Water changes

  

  Do water changes once in two weeks and replace it with fresh water

• Step 5 – Spawning

  

  This will occur for several days as the male will clasp the female under its fins

• Step 6 – Eggs

  

  The produce around 100 eggs and these white eggs will float in water

• Step 7 – Separating the parent

  

  Eggs should be relocated and kept away from the parent fishes

• Step 8 – Hatching

  

  Eggs will become dark and then sink down. These will hatch after three to even days.

• Step 9 – Feeding the fry

  

  Live food such as Daphnia and brine shrimp.

• Step 10 – Tank maintenance

  

  Keep cleaning and changing the water so that uneaten food is removed

• Step 11 – Cannibalism

  

  Larger fishes will feed on smaller ones and this will give you stronger young ones.

As the frys grow bigger the diet can be changed into freezed dried food and floating pellets.
